23 September 2022 … Detailed views inside Casting & 4680 production areas at Giga Texas! (06:45AM)

Gigafactory Texas on 23 September 2022! This is where the Cyber Truck and Model Y will be built!

For today, I do another pre-dawn flight to look inside Giga Texas, specifically the casting machine (a.k.a. Giga Press) section on the northeast and the 4680 battery cell production section on the 3rd floor on the northwest sides of the main building!

Inside the casting machine structure, we see a lot of work and scaffolding around concrete columns near the northern-most portion of the area, with what appears to be re-work or reconfiguring one of the bridge cranes, including changes to the railing system mounted at the top of the columns. We also see a large area of materials, crates and equipment in various degrees of installation. There are now three large fabrication machines located on the northeast side. Further south, we see all 4 of the (currently installed) giga presses in operation, as well as at least 2 more foundations and mounting frames. Finally, we see 2 larger giga press foundations under construction for, in most likelihood, the larger 9,000-ton giga presses.

Inside the 4680 battery cell production section of the factory, we see all machines in operation with workers attending to the dry cathode rolling processes, and what appears to be a bin of 4680 cells. We also see several status boards located near the windows, but it is hard to make out exactly what is written on them. Overall, the level of activity in this section is noticeably increased as compared to the previous look inside.

The north electrical substation construction site shows an uptick in activity, particularly with large pile drivers, a trenched and formed rectangular section on the east side, and more construction materials delivered on the north end. A new road is being paved on the east side over the concrete drainage pipe that connects to the water detention pond and drains to the east. Further north, the last of the large, drilled bores for power pole installation is completed, the large steel rebar cage and mounts installed, and concrete poured.

At the battery cathode plant, we see many new wall panels have been installed on the south and east sides, and these are now four panels high in some sections. A crane was busy preparing another wall panel for installation while several more have arrived on flat trailers. Ground slab and foundation construction in the middle to the north end is well underway. Once these two large sections have rebar installed, then concrete poured, about 80% of the ground slab will be completed.

On the southeast corner of the construction site near the stamping machine area, we see the horizontal pipe drilling has just pulled through the last of three large HDPE pipes from the south shore near the power plant, under the Colorado river and to the north drill site. This now concludes this portion of the pipe drilling and installation, so we will soon see a new phase in pipe construction beginning.

On the south concrete ramp area, we see a much larger and expanding concrete demolition section on the west side. This work is now forming a familiar diamond shape and looks to continue expanding to the east once the final concrete demo work in the current area is completed. Soon, the new cars temporarily parked near this area will have to be moved to make way for more concrete demolition.

Finally, on the southwest corner of the structure, crews are busy painting the exterior concrete walls, using the white paint color that was previewed on the southeast angled corner. I don’t know if this means white has been selected, or if a pattern of white, light, and dark gray colors will be used. At least we now know more of the factory is being painted now.
