Let's Dance - David Bowie 1983

"Let's Dance", by British singer David Bowie, was released as the first single from his Let's Dance album in 1983 and went on to become one of his biggest and fastest selling tracks across North America, and Central Europe. Although it reached the #1 spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and #5 on the U.K. Singles Chart, the song introduced Bowie to a new unknown younger audience he was not familiar with, and were unfamiliar to his former works of the 1970's. As a singer, songwriter, and actor, Bowie was a figure in popular music for over five decades and highly regarded as an innovator mainly for his work in the 1970's. His career was noted for his reinvention, visual presentation, music, stagecraft, and by significantly influencing popular music. The likes of Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, and Little Richard had a emphatic impact Bowie prior to starting his music career. Over the decades Bowie was honored with numerous awards for his music and stagecraft. These include multiple Grammy and British awards, a Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government, and an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music. However, he did turn down a knighthood. He is in the R&R Hall of Fame and was ranked 39th by Rolling Stone magazine on their list of the 100 Greatest Rock Artists of All Time. Also, the spider Heteropoda davidbowie was named in his honor.
