Since I Don't Have You - The Skyliners 1958
It was a very special era back in the days when things were more stable, more self control, and tact. It was also a time when the music industry saw the birth of many wonderful artists and songs. "Since I Don't Have You", by The Skyliners, is considered by many as one of the best heartbreak classic rock and roll ballads ever recorded. Taken from their self-titled album, and released in late 1958, the song reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, #7 on the Cash Box Top 100 and was also a top five hit on the 1959 R&B chart. Songwriter Joe Rock, who composed this personal experience song, wrote most of the lyrics while sitting in his car between stoplights. The song is highlighted with lead singer Jimmy Beaumont's powerful falsetto, and countered with Janet Vogel's soprano. This original version appeared in the movies American Graffiti, The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai, Lethal Weapon 2, and Mischief. The Skyliners were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2002.
