Nowhere to Run - Martha and the Vandellas 1965

"Nowhere to Run" is a 1965 pop/soul single by Martha and the Vandellas for Motown and is one of the group's signature songs. It peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot Top 100 chart and reached #5 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart. The song is backed by Motown's Funk Brothers band's hard-driving instrumentation sound that includes tire snow chains used as percussion, a tambourine, and drums. Motown producers often got inventive in the studio resulting in some unique soundscapes. The original version was, at the time, ranked #358 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The song also appeared in one of the original Magnum PI episodes, and was a centerpiece in the classic 1978 cult film The Warriors.
