Suspicion - Terry Stafford 1964

This cover of "Suspicion", recorded by singer/songwriter Terry Stafford in 1964, was previously featured on the 1962 Pot Luck album by Elvis Presley. Stafford's version of the song reached the #3 spot on the Hot 100 chart when The Beatles had been holding the top 5 positions at that time. It was his personal landmark vocal hit selling over 1 million copies. Terry Stafford was known primarily as an Elvis Presley sound-alike, a distinction he held with Ral Donner. Stafford was considered easy-going and soft-spoken scored, but worked hard to get noticed in a crowded field. He scored another major hit when he co-wrote "Amarillo by Morning", a song about his beloved hometown, that was covered by George Strait on his 1982 album Strait from the Heart. It was named the #12 country song of all-time by Country Music Television.
