Centerfield - John Fogerty 1987

About a decade after leaving Creedence Clearwater Revival and going solo, John Fogerty released his first chart-topping album Centerfield in 1987. The title track "Centerfield", combines two of Fogerty's passions, baseball and rock & roll. He became a fan of the New York Yankees in his youth and felt that the place to be on the team was in centerfield. The song is a tribute to some of the great centerfielders such as Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays, Ty Cobb, and other notable mentions. Also, in a 2015 radio interview, Fogerty mentioned that he always pictured Jackie Robinson in the lines "a-roundin' third and headed for home, it's a brown-eyed handsome man". Along with "Take Me Out To The Ballgame," "Centerfield" is one of the best-known baseball songs, and Fogerty is the only musician to be celebrated at the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony when the song was honored by the National Baseball
Hall of Fame.
