Double Shot - Swingin' Medallions 1966

The Swingin' Medallions formed in Greenwood, South Carolina in the early 1960's. Though their musical roots came from listening to early rhythm and blues acts, the band is most often associated with beach, frat rock, music. Released as their second single in 1966, the group's cover version of "Double Shot" became a Top 20 hit and peaked at #17 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. It sold over a million copies and earned a gold record even though the song was banned by many radio stations due to what was viewed as questionable lyrics. Bruce Springsteen called the song “The greatest fraternity rock song of all time”. It has been noted that “Double Shot” is played and sold in the gift shop of the Smithsonian Institute, because it’s as much a part of history as anything else according to the nation’s foremost repository of history.
