All Night Long - Lionel Richie 1983
"All Night Long" is a hit single by American singer-songwriter Lionel Richie. Taken from his second solo album, Can't Slow Down in 1983, the song combines Calypso-flavored influences with Richie's soulful style from his time with The Commodores. This dance and pop-inspired music approach proved popular, as the single reached #1 on the Pop, R&B and adult contemporary Billboard charts. It also sold well internationally. Although the lyrics were written primarily in English, Richie admitted in an interview that the" African" sounding lyrics in the song were made up. Richie said he tries to write about real events, and got the inspiration for this song from his vacations in the Caribbean where people party all night long. A multi-Grammy award winner, he was honored with the Person of the Year award in 2016, song of the year in 1985, album and producer of the Year in 1984, best Male Pop Vocal Performance in 1982, a Golden Globe award winner, and others.
