Sunburn
Sunburn is skin damage caused by overexposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun. It causes the outer layer of the skin to turn red, painful & at times swollen. Melanin, a pigment in the skin, protects the skin from UV damage & also lends the skin its color. The melanin levels are lower in people with fair skin & which is what makes them more prone to getting sunburned. Frequent sunburns can increase one’s risk of suffering from skin cancer.

Food groups to consume in sunburn:
1. Liquids: Help to re-hydrate the skin
Foods to consume: Water, buttermilk, green tea, juices and coconut water
2. High protein foods: Aid in tissue repair
Foods to consume: Eggs, chicken, fish, sprouts, milk and yogurt
3. Low fat foods: Help reduce weight
Foods to consume: Egg whites, yogurt, cottage cheese, skinless chicken, olive oil, rice bran oil and sunflower oil
4. Vitamin A: Helps in healing the skin
Foods to consume: Papaya, tomatoes, carrots, melons, apricots, mangoes and green leafy veggies
5. Vitamin C: Helps in collagen formation
Foods to consume: Kiwi, Indian gooseberry, guava and oranges
