Depression is a condition characterized by loss of interest or pleasure in every activity one does
-----------------------------
Symptoms to look for:
• Perennial sense of frustration
• Reduced sex drive
• Insomnia, anger, restlessness
• Poor concentration & mood swings

Causes:
• Chemical imbalances in brain
• Thyroid disorders
• Upset stomach
• Nutritional deficiencies
• Food allergies

Food groups to consume in depression:
1. Omega 3 fatty acids: Helps in proper functioning of brain
Foods to consume: oily fishes like trout, salmon, mackerel and sardines as well as fare like flax seeds and walnuts
2. Vitamin B: These are essential for the functioning of the nervous system & also act as ‘anti-stress’ nutrients
Foods to consume: milk, lentils, pulses, green vegetables, whole grain & cereals like brown rice, oats, millets, nuts & seeds
3. Fiber: It keeps blood sugar in control and prevents mood
swings
Foods to consume: oat bran, broccoli, cabbage, berries, squash & mushrooms
4. Foods rich in tryptophan: Helps to elevate mood
Foods to consume: lean chicken, tuna fish, eggs, cheese, bananas, peas, pumpkin, potato and spinach

Recipes based on the above food groups:
Recipe 1: Fruit porridge
1. Take 250 ml milk in a pan
2. Add 3-4 tbsp oats in it
3. Boil it till it becomes thick
4. Now, keep this milk in the fridge for 15 min to cool it
5. Next, add 1 tbsp chopped apple to the milk
6. Also add 2-3 chopped strawberries
7. Then add 2-3 chopped almonds
8. Also add 2-3 chopped walnuts
9. Add 1 tsp flax seeds
10. Finally, add 1 tsp honey
11. Mix and serve
Recipe 2: Steamed tuna
1. Put a piece of 100 g tuna in a deep plate
2. Put 1 tsp soy sauce and 1 spoon water
3. Apply and keep it in the fridge for 30 min
4. Then, place 2 tsp chopped spring onions on the top of the
fish
5. Also apply 1 tsp chilli flakes and very little grated ginger.
6. Then, put 2 tsp chopped tomato
7. Also add 2 chopped mushrooms
8. Now, steam the fish in a vessel
For steaming, take some water in a big vessel, keep a stand in it and place the plate with tuna and cover the vessel with a lid
9. Let it steam for 10-15 min
10. Add 1 tsp lemon juice on it before serving

Tips:
• Limit intake of fried & fatty foods
• Stay away from caffeine, colas, alcohol & sugary foods
• Do not skip meals
• Drink 4 L of water everyday
