Manfred Mann on Fontana Records, 1968-9.

A video about the British rock band Manfred Mann, recording on the Fontana label during 1968-9, featuring the line-up of Manfred Mann, Mike Hugg, Tom McGuinness, Mike d’Abo and Klaus Voorman. They opened 1968 with their third and final UK no.1 single Mighty Quinn, a cover of the folk-rock song Quinn the Eskimo written by Bob Dylan, which was also recorded by The Hollies around this time. The singles My Name is Jack, and Fox on the Run followed. The group released two studio LPs during 1968, being the soundtrack to the British film Up The Junction, and the psychedelic album Mighty Garvey. Their final original single Ragamuffin Man peaked at No.7 in the NME chart in June 1969, after which the band called it a day. Mann and Hugg formed the group Manfred Mann Chapter Three, while Tom McGuinness founded McGuinness Flint with former John Mayall's Bluesbreaker Hughie Flint, and Manfred bassist Klaus Voorman joined Eric Clapton and his old friend John Lennon in The Plastic Ono Band.
