Crab/Jenji Gassi (Coconut Sukka Masala Mangalorean style )
This delicious crab gassi it is mildly sweet, spicy and really tasty with coconut red masala.
Select crabs with a firm shell and heavy bodies, remove gills buy peeling them from either side of the body
Ingredients
-5-6 Big size crabs cut & cleaned
-3 tbsp baffat masala/red meat masala
-1 tbsp tamarind pulp
-dash turmeric powder
-dash garam masala powder
Salt to taste
-roasted grated coconut
RED COCONUT MASALA
-2 cup grated coconut
-Heat a pan dry roast coconut until slightly golden, set aside to cool
-In a big jar grinder add ginger, garlic, tamarind pulp, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, baffat masala, roasted grated coconut, salt to taste add very little water Coarsely grind the masala and set aside
SEASONING
-3 tbsp coconut oil/normal oil
-1 tbsp mustard seeds
-1 tsp cumin seeds
-1 medium sized onion chopped
-2 curry leaves spring
LETS COOK
-Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds allow to pop, add cumin seeds allow splutter, add chopped onion stir till is translucent
-Add crab pieces mix well to coat all the seasoning, Now add coconut grounded coconut masala mix well
Close the lid and cook over very low flame for 10 minutes without disturbing.
-Turn off the flame & let the crab absorb all the flavors
-Enjoy with dal/rice Rasam/rice
