Pavel Voronov's granddaughter tells her grandparents' story
Alexandra de Fircks is the granddaughter of Lieutenant Pavel Voronov, who served on Nicholas II's imperial yacht. In 1913, Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna fell in love with the handsome Standart officer, but this was a relationship that could never be. Later that year, Pavel got engaged to another Olga: Countess Kleinmichel, who also happened to be a friend of the grand duchesses and a court lady. In her diary, Grand Duchess Olga used a code to express her heartbreak over the upcoming marriage of her beloved "S."; and in early 1914, she described their wedding at the Feodorovsky Cathedral, which the entire imperial family attended.
Alexandra talks about her grandparents' wedding and reads excerpts from her grandmother's memoir, written years after the revolution. She also shows the icon, which may be the one that was given to her grandparents as a wedding gift by the Empress.
