Seven oaks for seven Romanovs - the story of the trees planted behind Feodorovsky Cathedral in 1913
On 21st April, 1913, Nicholas II wrote in his diary: "At 10 1/2, went to obednya, after which I planted trees: for Alix and myself, across from the church..."
A total of seven oaks were planted that day - one for each imperial family member. But only four of these trees survive today. Come with me, to meet the oaks which knew the last Tsar personally, they were planted by him about 50 meters from the Feodorovsky Cathedral's imperial entrance.
I present here, the videos I made of this area in summer of 2005, when Feodorovsky Cathedral was in process of restoration; and more than a decade later, in winter of 2016, when I again stood in the same spot. You will also see the rare photos from the day these trees were planted: 21 April, 1913.
