Listen to Voznesenskaya church bells in Ekaterinburg, 100 years after Nicholas II heard them.
It is the 2nd of May, 1918, shortly after Nicholas, Alexandra and Maria arrived and placed in the House of Special Purpose.
In his diary for that day, Nicholas wrote: "... Hearing the bells tolling made one sad to think that it is Passion [week] and we do not have the chance to be at these wonderful services, and besides we cannot even fast...".
Nicholas was referring the bells at the nearby Voznesensky Cathedral, where of course they were not allowed to go, even for the Easter service.
Miraculously, this cathedral survived the Soviet era completely intact, while so many other such churches were demolished.
In this video you can hear the tolling of the same bells they heard on Easter 1918, longing to be inside this church.
I recorded this on the morning of 18 July, 2018, - exactly 100 years since their tragic murders.
