Troodon (name meaning "Wounding Tooth"), also known as Stenonychosaurus (name meaning "Narrow Claw Lizard"), is a genus of troodontid dinosaur that originated during the Late Cretaceous period in what is now North America. A small but highly intelligent carnivore and among the first dinosaurs discovered in North America, Troodon possesses a deadly venomous bite, which it used to subdue its prey. The time it took for the venom to take effect depended on the size of the prey.

Troodon is a small carnivorous dinosaur that can be distinguished by their large eyes (which allowed them to hunt in the dark), small stature, serrated teeth, and venomous bite, which allows them to slowly subdue animals many times their own size. With long, thin legs that enable it to reach high speeds when chasing prey, Troodon would stalk its victims after biting; the toxins in its saliva cause hallucinations, followed by paralysis and finally brain death.

Relative to its size, it had the largest brain of any dinosaur. Therefore, their intelligence was on a similar, if not identical, level to their sister species - the Dromaeosaurs, otherwise called Raptors. This makes Troodon one of the most intelligent dinosaurs known to have existed. And like raptors, Troodon hunted in packs lead by an Alpha and possessed the killing claw structure on their foot. However, they didn't use them to attack or kill prey, rather hold the prey down to pull away flesh.
