Compsognathus (name meaning "Dainty Jaw"), often referred to as Compy for short, is a genus of compsognathid dinosaur that originated during the Late Jurassic period in what is now Europe. One of the smallest dinosaurs known (approximately the size of a chicken), Compsognathus primarily hunted small mammals and insects, sometimes scavenging for larger prey. Because of its small size, Compsognathus relied on its speed, agility, and quick reactions to catch its prey, and lived in large numbers.
