Metriacanthosaurus (name meaning "Moderately-Spined Lizard") is a genus of metriacanthosaurid dinosaur that originated during the Late Jurassic period in what is now Europe. Named after the tall spines on its vertebrae, Metriacanthosaurus was a fearsome medium-sized theropod dinosaur that, despite its smaller size compared to other carnivores, was one of the apex predators of its time and ecosystem.

Able to live and hunt alone or in pairs, Metriacanthosaurus preyed on large herbivores and can reach speeds of up to 20 miles per hour. Other than this, Comparatively little is known about this dinosaur compared to its contemporaries like Allosaurus. Despite the relative size of its spines, they were small compared to Spinosaurus and even Acrocanthosaurus.
