Ankylosaurus (name meaning "Fused Lizard") is a genus of ankylosaurid dinosaur that originated during the Late Cretaceous period in what is now North America. The namesake and largest member of the ankylosaur family of dinosaurs, Ankylosaurus is also one of the world's most well-known dinosaurs.
Recognizable for its thick, protective armored body, this living herbivorous tank of the dinosaur world is also armed with a massive, powerful bone-breaking club at the end of its tail. A ball of solid bone weighing as heavy as 150 pounds, this weapon would do serious damage to predators even as large as Tyrannosaurus. Because of that, Ankylosaurus is referred to as "the bane of Tyrannosaurus".
Despite its well-defended attributes and while its senses of smell were acute, Ankylosaurus unfortunately had poor vision, not unlike that of modern rhinos. Additionally, the only vulnerability among this armored tank of a dinosaur was its underside - the only place that lacks armor.
Nevertheless, Ankylosaurus is a heavily armored quadrupedal dinosaur endowed with adornments that make it one of the most well-defended herbivores.
