Momotus momota // Amazonian Motmot
Esta especie del genero Momotus, es la especie más ampliamente distribuida en Sudamerica. A pesar de que su nombre en inglés es Motmot de la Amazonia, en Argentina se encuentra en un ambiente conocido como el Pedemonte, el estrato más bajo de la Selvas de Montañas de las Yungas. Esta especie nidifica en huecos que excava en la tierra y por las mañanas, antes que salga el sol emite su característico canto de tonos graves. Además de su color verde, poco común en las aves, se caracteriza por tener su cola que termina en forma de dos raquetas pequeñas, esto lo logra el mismo individuo al retirar la parte de las plumas anterior a las raquetas, quedando así esta ornamenta tan particular.

Although its name in English is Amazonian Motmot, in Argentina it is found in an environment known as the Pedemonte, the lowest stratum of the Yungas Mountain Jungles. This species nests in holes in the ground and in the mornings, before the sun rises, it emits its characteristic low-pitched song. In addition to its green color, unusual in birds, it is characterized by having its tail ending in the form of two small rackets, this is achieved by the same individual by removing the part of the feathers before the rackets, thus leaving this particular ornamentation.
