HBT - Aegolius harrisii - Buff-fronted Owl - Lechucita Canela

Aegolius harrisii es una especie de Strigiforme y la única representante del genero en Sudamérica. Posee una amplia distribución en el Sur-Este de Brasil, el Sur de Bolivia y Norte de Argentina. Se la ha encontrado en una gran variedad de hábitats, sin embargo su historia natural es poco conocida. Esta observación la realizamos en la provincia de Salta, Argentina al lado de un territorio de Megascops hoyi. El individuo muy confiado se posó a escasos metros y tuvimos la oportunidad de verlo cantar mientras inflaba su saco gular blanco.

Aegolius harrisii is the solely species of its genera in South America. It is widespread through SE Brazil, South Bolivia and Northern Argentina. It has been found in several and quite different habitats types, however its natural history remains poorly known. We had the opportunity to spot this individual in Salta province, Argentina in proximity with one Megascops hoyi's territory. It was a very confident individual who flied right next to us and gave us the chance to hear and see it while it was singing.
