The Spam-Can that Can! 34067 Tangmere Mainline Action. 2011 – 2015

Thankfully a number of these unique and distinctive locomotives survived re-building in B.R. days and fortunately did not take their B.R. reliability issues into preservation on account of being so much better maintained than at the end of steam. As a “light pacific” however, adhesion in slippery conditions is still an issue and consequently we usually see them with a diesel on the back with loads of 10 or more.

Withdrawn from the main-line in 2016 and with a relatively speedy return to steam in October 2021, due in large part to the fitting of the boiler from classmate 34073 “249 Squadron”, 34067 has entered main-line service again.

Here is a collection of HD clips, from random locations across the network, captured between 2011 and 2015 and demonstrating her versatility, so important for steam loco’s working between service trains on today’s busy network.

We start with some high speed track level passes then more distant high speed running clips, followed by clips of climbing. The final clip, in track conditions now consigned to history with the substantial enlargement and re-profiling of the Dawlish sea wall, is sampled from my most popular upload, making 34067 a particular favourite of mine.

It will be nice to see her joined by 6024 and 71000 next year … fingers crossed!
