TRADITIONAL MUSIC SESSION | Planxty Hewlett | ft. Ynyslas National Nature Reserve

Traditional music sessions are on hold at this time due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A new series of videos for 2020 features previously unseen footage of traditional music sessions from the last two years in Mid Wales pubs. It is combined with recent clips from day trips (as the lockdown eased in Wales) to some of our favourite places in this beautiful part of the world.

This session took place in March 2019 at The Old Mill pub in Llanidloes, Mid Wales.

Ynyslas National Nature Reserve

Ynyslas National Nature Reserve is on the beautiful Ceredigion coastline just north of the small seaside resort of Borth. The stunning coastal scenery features the Dyfi estuary, the wild Irish sea backed by a long sandy beach and dunes, and the mountains of southern Snowdonia. The dunes are the largest in Ceredigion. This place is not just a mecca for walkers, surfers and nature lovers, but also home to some unusual spiders, fungi and orchids! You may also spot birds of prey such as osprey and hen harriers depending on the time of year.

From the beach car park there are a number of dune walks taking you along various boardwalks and steps to high viewing spots overlooking the Ynyslas National Nature Reserve. Across the Dyfi estuary you can see the lovely seaside town of Aberdyfi (Aberdovey) nestling at the base of the Snowdonia mountains. And to the distance the hills of the Llyn Peninsula line the skyline. Dropping down through the dunes you can easily reach the beach and continue on a circular walk north besides the crashing waves until you reach the estuary and veer back towards the beach car park.
