George Michael - I Want Your Sex [Monogamy Mix] (1987)

Pinpointing George Michael's debut solo single is a tricky proposition - "Careless Whisper" was released as a solo single in Europe, but was billed as Wham! in the states. "A Different Corner" was exactly the same way. So hopefully it won't stir up any controversy when I call this one his true solo debut, because it was released in all territories under his own name, it was written by him, and (for the single release, at least) he played every instrument. (Deon Estus provides some tasty bass licks on parts 2 and 3)

ANYWAY - this single first appeared on the Beverly Hills Cop II soundtrack, and announced to the world that George was moving on from Wham! and was ready to take over the world, which he absolutely proceeded to do. This 12" with the "Monogamy Mix" is one that I bought the day it came out, and was mesmerized that a 13 minute song could keep my attention throughout the entire length. To this day, it's rather unique because of the 4x4 drum intro rather than the syncopated synth and percussion intro. Handy for DJing, and an awesome novelty for people who haven't heard it before.
