Odia Coates - Showdown (1975)

I do a lot of online digging for records - it's a different process than browsing in store. Thanks to the power of searchable databases, I'll sometimes search for producers or writers that I like, to see what they might have worked on that I'd never heard of. And THAT is how I landed on this album from '70s soul singer Odia Coates.

Presented here, is Odia's cover of ELO's Showdown - written by Jeff Lynne, of course, which is the name I had searched for when this record came up. Already one of ELO's most soulful recordings (there's a video of it synced to soul train dancing footage that works REALLY well) Odia ramps it up into a whole new creation. Check it out!
