Charlie Sexton - Beat's So Lonely (1985)

Summer of '87, I worked at Godfather's Pizza. Every night when we closed, the employees would each punch up their favorite song on the jukebox, to power us through cleanup. I don't remember what I picked the first few times, but at one point I discovered this song was in the box, and it became my choice for the rest of the summer!

Produced by Keith Forsey, who had worked closely with Giorgio Moroder in the late '70s and early '80s, and that influence is all over this song - a rock song that you can dance to, keyboards and guitars layered over a drum machine, and then Charlie's vocals atop it all. Few things are more instantly recognizable as being from the '80s, as the sound of this song!
