Spider - Change (1981)

Meet Spider - a band formed in 1977, featuring Anton Fig on drums (later well known for playing with dozens of top artists, including Cyndi Lauper, and also for joining Paul Schaffer in the World's Most Dangerous Band on the David Letterman show) and the soon-to-be very successful songwriter / producer, Holly Knight.

Their second album, Between the Lines was released in 1981, and opened with a Holly Knight-penned song that should sound very familiar to people who love '80s pop / rock. Just a year later, John Waite would release his version of this, which because his calling card as a solo artist.

Like most people, I thought "Change" was a John Waite original for a long time, but upon learning about this one, I had to get a copy and share with everyone here. So here is the original recording of "Change" - written by, and played by Holly Knight, who played keyboard in Spider, as well as being a songwriter.

The first song on side 2 is also the original recording a a song that was a massive hit for another artist - I'll post that one in a couple days!
