Shake Keane, 'Bachianas Brasileiras #5' ('Cantilena' - Heitor Villa-Lobos)
Shake Keane (1927-1997) was a jazz musician and poet. He is best known today for his role as a jazz trumpeter, principally his work as a member of the ground-breaking Joe Harriott Quintet (1959-65).
Inspired in the work of the great German composer Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), the 'Bachiana Brasileira #5', W 389, is part of a series of 9 suites, written for various combinations of instruments and voices, between 1930 and 1945, by the Brazilian composer, conductor, educator, cellist, pianist and guitarist Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959). He is considered one of the most important composers of all time, having produced over 2000 works.
With views of my hometown, the stunningly beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro, and one of my favorite beaches, São Conrado, Brazil.
Recorded in the album 'Shake Keane With the Keating Sound' (1965).
