Romain Leleu, 'Zapateado' (Pablo de Sarasate)

Romain Leleu (1983) is a French virtuoso trumpeter and teacher. Instrumental soloist revelation by the 'Victoires de la Musique' (French Grammy Awards) in 2009, Romain Leleu performs all over the world with a repertoire ranging from Baroque concertos to the 21th century. As soloist he appears with the main French and international orchestras. Romain Leleu teaches at the Lyon Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique.

Pablo de Sarasate (1844-1908) was a Spanish violin virtuoso, composer, arranger and conductor of the Romantic period. His best known works include 'Zigeunerweisen' (Gypsy Airs), the 'Spanish Dances' and the 'Carmen Fantasy'.

'Zapateado' - Spanish Dance #6, Op. 23. The 'Spanish Dances' are a collection of eight pieces for violin and piano composed by Pablo de Sarasate between 1877 and 1882 and published in four books, each book combining two dances contrasting in rhythm and character. They are among Sarasate's best known works. Book III ('Playera' and 'Zapateado'), Op. 23, was composed in the summer of 1879 and dedicated to Hugo Heermann, a German violinist Sarasate had met in Frankfurt that year.
