Andrea Giuffredi, 'Mattinata' (Ruggero Leoncavallo)
Andrea Giuffredi (1965) is an Italian trumpeter, composer, arranger and educator. He is heralded worldwide as a once-in-a-lifetime virtuoso trumpet artist - truly one of the finest and most versatile performers on stage today.
Ruggero Leoncavallo (1857-1919) was an Italian opera composer, librettist and pianist. Today he remains largely known for 'Pagliacci', one of the most popular and frequently performed works in the opera repertory. His other compositions include the song 'Mattinata', popularized by Enrico Caruso, and the symphonic poem 'La Nuit de Mai'.
'Mattinata' ('Morning') was the first song ever written expressly for the Gramophone Company (the present day EMI). Composed by Leoncavallo in 1904, it was dedicated to Enrico Caruso (1873-1921), who was the first to record it in the same year, with the composer at the piano. Ever since, the piece has been a concert favourite of tenors.
Recorded in the album 'Cuore & Passione' (2018)

Original lyrics in English:
The dawn, dressed in white,
has already opened the door to the sun,
and caresses the flowers with its pink fingers.
A mysterious trembling seems to disturb all nature.
And yet you will not get up, and vainly
I stand here sadly singing...
Dress yourself also in white,
and open the door to your serenader!
Where you are not, there is no light;
where you are, love is born!
Where you are not, there is no light;
where you are, love is born!
