American Bandstand 1966 - Hungry, Paul Revere and the Raiders

Airdate: June 18, 1966

”Hungry” will be the 2nd top 10 hit in a row for Paul Revere and the Raiders, the follow up to ”Kicks” (#4). Today it is brand new on the charts entering at #82 and will peak at #6 by the end of July.

In the studio: if you listen carefully you’ll hear a minor “blooper” at the very beginning of the song as a mic is accidentally turned on and you can hear someone talking (to me it sounds like Charlie O’Donnell?) The regulars spotted dancing today are: Marcia Silverman (1:57), Debbie Sewell (3:23), Melody McMurray (3:21), Maureen Cohen (3:28), Steven Schreiner (3:44), and Lori Montgomery (3:51).

Brought to you by “Arrid Action Spray“ deodorant. Lazy, do-nothing families need not apply (did the “active” family all share a single can?)

….And yesterday, June 17th, 3 people were murdered at a grill in Paterson, New Jersey. Professional boxer Rubin ”Hurricane” Carter was arrested, tried and wrongfully convicted of the murders and served 19 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. His case was reopened and he was freed in 1985 based on lack of evidence. His story inspired the 1975 Bob Dylan song “Hurricane” and the 1999 Denzel Washington movie “The Hurricane”.
