American Bandstand 1970 – California Soul, Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
Airdate: May 23, 1970
As Dick Clark mentions, “California Soul” was released right after Tammi Terrell passed away in March 1970 due to brain cancer. This will be Tammi and Marvin’s final duet and it peaks at #56 today.
The 1970 regulars dancing today are: Carl Ratcher & Beverly Byess (2:05), Steven Rice (2:56) and on the highest riser today are Famous Hooks & Theodosia Dayton.
….And in movie news, in 3 days (May 26) the much anticipated sequel to “The Planet of the Apes”, “Beneath the Planet of the Apes”, will be released. While critics hated it, it was not a (Alpha-Omega) bomb as it became the 16th highest grossing film of 1970.
