Charity Bazaar in Yalta, Crimea. Nicholas II's diary: 14 May, 1912.
Spring, 1912. It was the time for the annual charity bazaar in Yalta, Crimea. Some months coming up to the 14th of May, Empress Alexandra and her children had been preparing for this market, even making many things they planned to sell with their own hands. Finally, the day is here, and this is how Nicholas II describes it in his diary.
In this video, you will travel back in time to May of 1912, to attend this busy and happy event with the Romanov family, even hear the background music from this very period.
"14-th May... At 10 o'clock, we drove to Yalta and looked around the tent set ups on the
mall.... Exactly at one, the bazaar opened. Alix sat in the old gazebo, the daughters were selling in a tent nearby, the ladies farther along. Gradually the crowd grew; music was playing on the yacht and both ends of the mall. Initially the weather was grey and windy, later improved. Around 4 o'clock, Alix took a break and came to the yacht for tea. Then they continued selling until 6 1/2., when the bazaar ended..."
