Elvis Presley - Kissin' Cousins (No 2) - Movie Version - Re-edited with Stereo Audio

The practice of having two versions of the same song recorded during Elvis’ soundtrack sessions was not particularly unusual. In most cases this was deemed necessary due to small nuances required for the movie, and so there were often small but noticeable differences between the record and movie versions, therefore essentially creating two masters.
In the case of Kissin’ Cousins however, this was far more extreme and a unique case in his soundtrack recordings canon. In this instance, two completely different songs with the title of the movie were written and recorded. This may originally have been with the intention for a choice between the two to be made, but instead both wold be used in the movie.
Both songs had a different melody and lyrics, although the theme was similar so that either would tie into the movie. However, rather than retitle one of the songs, the rather confusing decision was made to give the opening credits version the rather imaginative addendum “No.2” in the title!
In fairness to the producers of the movie, and leaving aside the overall merits of the songs, the “No,2” version does suit the opening credits as far as the feel of the movie is concerned.
The “No.2” version of “KIssin’ Cousins” was recorded by Elvis on 10 October 1963 on MGM’s sound stage in Hollywood to a backing track recorded on 29 September. Before insertion into the movie almost a minute was edited out of the final master version, reducing the time from two minutes sixteen to just one minute eighteen, in order that it would fit over the opening credits.

As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!
