Elvis Presley - Faded Love - The Live Comparison Series - Volume Seventy One

“Faded Love” was recorded by Elvis at RCA's Studio B in Nashville on 4 June 1970. It was the sixth song recorded on the first day of recording during Elvis' "Nashville Marathon." The song was then released on 'Elvis Country' that same year.
There are only four known live versions of the song and all are included in this compilation.

00:00 Version One – 15 February 1973, Dinner Show – Las Vegas
This first live performance of 'Faded Love' comes from the same show as the unusual, final version of 'I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry' which had Elvis continue performing despite an obvious throat problem.
It was the first song that Elvis sang after changing his mind about closing the show due to a sore throat which had forced him off stage for some time during which The Stamps took to centre of the stage and Charlie Hodge did the introductions.

02:27 Version Two – 13 May 1973, 3am Show – Lake Tahoe
This remains the only officially released live rendition, it was released as part of the “Follow That Dream” album “Takin’ Tahoe Tonight”. This album, released in October 2003 featured Elvis’ special 3am show on 13 May 1973 which shows Elvis in very good form. It seems that it was unrehearsed and not part of the set list, seems to have been a last minute decision by Elvis to sing the song as it was the penultimate song of the show and Elvis is unhappy with the tempo. However, only six of the twenty six shows during that engagement have audio in the public domain, so it is plausible that Elvis may have sung it again during this engagement.

04:53 Version Three – 1 July 1973, Afternoon Show – Nashville
This superb version is the only known version that Elvis performed whilst on tour. This rendition was heard during his afternoon show in Nashville and with the set list unknown for his evening show – did he perform it again later that day?!!
