Elvis Presley - Patch It Up - The Live Comparison Series - Volume Seventy Three

The final song to be recorded during the 'Nashville Marathon' and on the final day of 8 June 1970 in RCA's Studio B was "Patch It Up". It was however the live version from 12 August dinner show which was released on the TTWII album with the studio master mothballed for release at a later date firstly as a single release.
Having included in his set list for his August Las Vegas engagement, it's placement within the show and the omission of Suspicious Minds suggests that he saw it as the replacement for Suspicious Minds, which was just leaving the charts at the time.
Either the audience reaction or Elvis' gut feeling was not in the positive, and the song received just a single additional performance, the aforementioned 12 August dinner show rendition featured both on the album and in the movie.

Version One – 10 August 1970, Opening Show, Las Vegas – The First Rendition
The highlight of this 10 August 1970 opening night version is undoubtedly the superb ending with Elvis showing how adept he must have been at Yoga!!

Version Two – 12 August 1970 Dinner Show – Las Vegas
The RCA Master and That’s The Way It Is Movie Version
It was this, the second and final live version that appeared in the original That’s The Way It Is in 1970 from the 12 August Dinner show, but originally had the second verse edited out. Although included in the 2001 re-edited version of That’s The Way It Is, the song still found itself heavily edited, but can be seen here in complete form. The edits are detailed through captions on the video itself, with the 2001 segments in High Definition.
You can see Elvis appears to be having lots of fun with it, and the audience reception seems favourable. As previously mentioned, it seems that Patch It Up marked was to replace Suspicious Minds for the duration of this season, but Elvis was not happy with the way it came across. Consequently, he reinstated Suspicious Minds after opening night, and therefore this second live version would also be the final rendition.

As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!
