Elvis Presley - A House of Sand - Movie Version - Re-edited with Stereo Audio

The soundtrack sessions for Elvis’ 1966 movie “Paradise, Hawaiian Style” in RCA’s Studio B in Hollywood were far from straightforward. All of the songs had seen Elvis record his vocals to a pre-recorded backing tracks, and with many of the tracks Elvis could not achieve a suitable master which therefore required the creation of a spliced master. This is all before the obvious disdain that Elvis had for the material that he had been presented with is factored into the equation!
All of this is applicable to “A House of Sand”, the final song that Elvis added his vocal to on 3 August 1965, but after just three takes, it was decided that the first take would be selected as RCA’s master. However, for the movie version, Elvis had to re-record two separate parts of the song at the beginning of the following day’s recording session,
The first part to be re-recorded was the intro and the first line, the master of which lasts just five seconds, before Elvis then re-recorded the last two word of the first line, “work of art”. No wonder Elvis’ dismay and boredom is evident in these recording sessions.
The final sliced movie master then comprised of the intro from the RCA master, take five of the re-recording of the first line (lasting just five seconds), then his re-recording of the words “work of art” with the remainder of the original RCA master constituting the rest of the song!!

As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!
