Crested Bellbird Calls - The sounds of a Crested Bellbird in the Australian outback

The song of the Crested Bellbird is one of Australia’s finest bird calls and a characteristic sound of the Australian outback. A melodic series of rich, resonant ringing notes which usually include one or two deeper liquid cow-bell like notes at the end. These calls often start softly and increase in intensity. These sounds have a ventriloquial quality making it a challenge to locate a calling bird!

The Crested Bellbird (Oreoica gutturalis) is endemic to mainland Australia and is found mainly in dry wooded habitats such as mallee, mulga, acacia shrubland and grasslands with scattered trees.

The Crested Bellbird calls in this video spectrogram were recorded in Paroo Darling National Park in outback New South Wales, Australia. More examples of wildlife sounds and bird calls can be found on my website https://wildambience.com/wildlife-sounds/
