Lesser Sooty Owl - Sounds and Calls

The sounds of a Lesser Sooty Owl calling at night in tropical rainforest in Far North Queensland. This species sounds very similar to its close relative, the Greater Sooty Owl. Vocalizations include a piercing descending screech (which can sound like a whistle if heard from a distance - this call is sometimes called the ‘falling-bomb whistle’). Heard up close, this call sounds more like a shriek or scream.

The Lesser Sooty Owl (Tyto multipunctata) is a medium-sized owl species found in rainforests in the Wet Tropics of northern Queensland. More examples of wildlife sounds and bird calls can be found on my website https://wildambience.com/wildlife-sounds/
