Travel Post-Brexit Italy – Pt. 3
If there’s a Brexit DEAL, nothing changes until after 31st December, 2020, meaning you can travel to Italy as normal.
If there’s NO DEAL, there must be over 6 months left on your passport to travel, although you won’t need visas for short stays in Italy.

So, what's the likely extent of any disruption to your travel arrangements when travelling to and from Italy?
Well, that depends on whether there's a deal.... or no deal, as follows:
1. If there's A DEAL, nothing will change until after 31st December, 2020.
Up until then you can continue to travel freely in the Schengen area (which includes Italy) with your UK passport (but make sure your passport is valid well in advance of you travelling, otherwise you’ll need to renew it).
What happens after 2020 will form the next part of negotiations between the EU and the UK.
2. If there’s NO DEAL, you must have at least 6 months left on your passport (the same applies for children) to travel to Italy.
Take careful note: if you renewed your current passport before the previous one expired, extra months may have been added to its expiry date.
Any extra months on your passport over 10 years may not count towards the 6 months needed.
3. Again, If there’s NO DEAL, UK nationals will not need visas for short stays in Italy.
You'll be able to stay up to 90 days within a 180-day period, however, you must retain evidence of travel (such as train and plane tickets), in case these are requested by the Italian authorities.
4. If you hold a residence permit in Italy, you'll be able to travel through other EU and non-EU European countries (such as Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway) to reach your Italian residence.
