Feeling blessed that you’ve experienced something to be enjoyed and admired is no surprise, as Italian life revolves around food (and wine)..... no wonder that the ingredients of any Italian dish are a powerful concoction of delicious aphrodisiacs!

So, are you ready for a bonus edition of more Italian foods to make you love Italy?

Here's the final serving of seven more Italian aphrodisiac foods:

#1. Cucumbers – Why?

This is a no-brainer: their shape!

This garden vegetable was considered so salacious it was banned in convents, and one report from a Venetian envoy to the Ottoman Empire insisted that women in houses of pleasure weren’t allowed to have cucumbers, unless they were sliced immediately " to deprive them of the means of playing the wantons”!

#2. Eggs – The ultimate symbol of fertility. Renaissance brides were given a big breakfast of eggs after their first nights as married women.

#3. Cloves – Not only were cloves an expensive and costly spice, but they were also thought to give fire and heat to a woman’s body.

Baldassare Pisanelli, a late Renaissance physician from Bologna, provided a recipe to enhance fertility and the amorous nature of a woman, saying that “4 drams of cloves in milk will greatly increase the power of Venus.”

#4. Polenta - this is a symbol of the poor man’s food.

The ancient Romans ate polenta with honey and olive oil, to help detox after big meals, and was recognised as having purifying properties.

It's said that wives knew that polenta helped them conceive, and so was regarded as a fertility culinary secret, that's since passed on to generations of women in each family.

#5. Tiramisu – The name means "lift me".

It’s deserved status as an aphrodisiac can be traced back to the dessert originating from a pleasure house in Treviso, in the Veneto region of northern Italy.

Apparently, the Madam of the brothel created the dish for her customers to reinvigorate them – to lift them up (which can be interpreted in more ways than one!), although it’s reckoned the dish was served towards the end of the customer's visit.....

Since then, tiramisu has been served as a “lift me up” for newlyweds, and for women who have recently given birth.

#6. Cinnamon.

This spice was brought to Italy by Venetian and Genóese sailors in the Middle Ages from the Indian sub-continent, and was used by Romans in food and wine as an aphrodisiac stimulant.

Apparently, cinnamon is a naturally recognised aphrodisiac in the medical world, as it helps to facilitate and improve blood flow in male and female genitals.

#7. Pistachio Nuts.

These pistachios are the most expensive in the world, and are referred to as "Sicily's green gold".

Pistachio nuts are good for reducing blood pressure, weight control, reducing the risk of heart disease, and overcoming erectile dysfunction symptoms.

Whether the attraction is the erectile dysfunction solution qualities, or it's the price the nuts command on the black market, is up for debate.
