Palace Brothers - Days In The Wake (1994) ALBUM REVIEW

Will Oldham began his lengthy solo career in 1993 with the multi-faceted Palace moniker. His first release under the psuedonym Palace Brothers arrived that same year, "There Is No-One What Will Take Care Of You", a grand yet lo-fi alt-country-based work. Spending much of 1993 and early 1994 writing songs for the next Palace Brothers album, Oldham, frustrated at a lack of productivity during studio sessions, recorded this next album in several locations on 4-track tape, and released it through Drag City in August 1994 as a self-titled album, which would be later named "Days In The Wake", one of his most important and arguably iconic records, and one of my recent favorites of all-time. Today, we're going to take a look at it.
