Elvis Presley - G.I. Blues - From First Take to the Master

The title track of the movie, instead of being heard over the opening credits, was heard ten and a half minutes into the movie, but was itself still the first song to be heard on the soundtrack.
Elvis recorded the title track on Wednesday 27 April 1960, at RCA's Hollywood Studios, and included a quite complicated recording process. Elvis began by running through seven takes, but then takes eight through ten were purely concentrated on the final chorus and ending, with these three takes known as "pickup", with the final master being a composite of take seven, with the ending being take ten and this was the version which would be publicly released on the soundtrack album.
The recording process was not yet completed however, since for insertion into the movie, the master was first transferred from stereo to mono, and then had horn overdubs included.

As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!
