0:00 - Overview of Removing Multiple Returns
Choosing Find/Change from the Edit menu will launch the stand-alone Find/Change dialog box. At the top of this dialog box is a Query dropdown menu. Choose "Multiple Return to Single Return" which will automatically populate the "Find what:" and "Change to:" fields. Choosing "Change All" will replace all of the multiple returns with a single return through the entire document.
0:32 - Visualising Hidden Characters
The Screen Mode needs to be set to Normal, not Preview. This can be done via...
- The Screen Mode button at the bottom of the Tools panel.
- Toggling between modes with the W key.
- The Screen Mode section of the View menu.
Activate the Show Hidden Characters option from the bottom of the Type menu.
With the above two options active, characters such as Spaces and Paragraph Returns will be displayed in blue within text. This is a very powerful way to debug problems with documents.
2:01 - Text Mode vs GREP Mode
The Find/Change dialog box has multiple modes. By default, the Text mode is active. This mode allows for simple, standard searches such as replacing "bob" with "Bob".
The GREP mode allows for far more sophisticated and powerful searches. Such content can include hidden characters and expressions that can target combinations of elements. The "Multiple Return to Single Return" Query is one such GREP search.

4:07 - Example 2 - Long Document
