Most Common Calisthenics Mistake When Starting | AVOID THIS

A classic mistake I see all the time, beginners will see skills online and continuously train the hardest variations of that skill over and over assuming they’ll achieve it when in reality they’re probably lacking progress.

This is where focusing on training the fundamental pushing and pulling movement patterns at the start of your training becomes important.

Developing strength with the basics not only helps you improve strength and size, but will also have a carry over effect into helping you train more advanced skills you wish to achieve.

The muscle up is a prime example. If you’ve developed strong pull ups and dips overtime, you’ll be able to train the muscle up with less strenuous effort. This can also apply to statics such as the planche, for example during a full ROM push up, your elbows are locked out at the top, with shoulders depressed and slight protraction at the top, the same cues apply for planche training.

Point being, try not to get to excited and jump into these skills without first addressing the fundamentals. They will help guide you in the long run and develop a base level of strength to prepare you for training these skills.

Now this doesn’t mean you should avoid all skill training, just add lighter variations at the start of your journey as accessory work while focusing on the fundamentals.

Thanks for watching and enjoy the process 💯
