How To Relieve Neck Tension and Pain - Stop Stretching - DO THIS INSTEAD! (Fast & Easy 2-Step Fix)
How To Relieve Neck Tension and Pain - Stop Stretching! (2-Step Guide)
Neck tension and pain often occurs between the shoulder blades and spine and up into the neck. Often times, stretching exercises for neck pain are prescribed to relieve tension.
However, neck stretches provide only temporary relief and can actually make the neck more sore and irritable. The reason for this is actually pretty simple, and the solution doesn't involve stretching.
Due to the position of the upper rib cage, the right upper trapezius muscles as well as the levator scapula (to name a few) are under stress. In a typical rightward orientation of the upper rib cage, the muscles on the right will be initially stretched as the rib cage turns to the right. Over time, the muscles between the shoulder blade and the spine create tension to assist in the maintenance of equilibrium as they attempt to turn the rib cage back to the left.
Stretching exercises do not work under these conditions because the tension in the neck is there to help the body maintain position in space.
Typically, the same muscles on the left side are also tense and need to learn to let go in order to allow the rib cage to turn back towards the left. If this occurs, and then subsequently the rib upper rib cage is expanded, the tension and need for stretching goes away.
Using these two simple activities, you can fix neck pain and tension fast without having to ever stretch again.
