All Fours Supported Position

Keys to this activity are:

1. Maintain appropriate breathing strategy
2. Position thorax to meet goals. If biased away from the ground, posterior expansion is better maintained, if allowed to move towards the ground, posterior compression is enhanced and likely anterior expansion is also enhanced
3. Avoid tendency to hitch up only at lower rib cage. This is usually just a strategy that compresses the sternum.

Some reasons to include this activity:

1. Improve anterior expansion of the thorax and pelvis. Due to the effect of gravity on the internal organs and fluids, expansion will be biased towards the anterior aspect of the upper chest wall.
2. Improve internal rotation. Due to the bias of the arms and legs being at 90 degrees "flexion," the force down into the ground through the hands and knees, and the anterior expansion of the thorax and pelvis, this activity is very useful in improving systemic internal rotation.
