2023-01-16 Xiao Qi Ji Explores Yard 4, Vocalizes & Rumbles with Momma!

#PandaStory: Saturday morning (1-14-23) Xiao Qi Ji took a "bath" in the dirty pool, after which he became, not surprising, very frisky! He took on his mother Mei Xiang a few times but she was not in the mood for his nonsense and energy, so she was walking around grumbling. Qi Ji was goofy, rolling around on the rockwork and anointing with bamboo. And then he discovered he could REACH the door that separates the rooms from his rockwork perch! It took awhile, and we saw Mei walk under his "bridge" quite a few times, but he finally was able to pull his body back to the ledge. Silly bear!

Also Saturday, Qi Ji, (thanks to the fabulous CO) gave us a tour of Yard 3/4. Those of you that have watched previous cubs will recognize some landmarks (River Shan, Pinky Pond, Bei Bei's old hammock structure). And yes, Qi Ji got even more poo on himself when he rolled around in the tunnel! In between laps of the yard he had treats, bamboo, and rested some too. At the 9:05 mark you see him sniffing a tree, perhaps smelling Tian Tian as I've shown daddy scent marking/anointing this tree before.

Today's footage begins at the 13:36 mark. Before going outdoors this morning, Qi Ji and Mei were both quite vocal, having conversations at both the doors leading outdoors. Not sure if they were talking to each other or their keepers!

The end of a very lengthy play bout is shown beginning at the 15:35 mark. The audio was on so we could hear their vocalizations. It appeared to me the bout ended because they were both so tired (as well as filthy!). Qi Ji came in and sat in the pool and left lots of his dirt behind. After midafternoon boo and treats he chose to nap in the den ... awww.
