Major Hurricane Eta Rapidly Intensifying - Live Update

Hurricane Eta has rapidly intensified during the past day, and already a category 4 major hurricane contrary to any consensus forecasts yesterday. Eta is still rapidly intensifying right now, and could approach category 5 status before making landfall in Nicaragua tomorrow, where 3 feet / 1 meter of rainfall is currently forecast. On top of these life-threatening risks, a severe storm surge of 12-18 feet is currently forecast for areas just north of where Eta makes landfall All interest in Central America need to monitor the developments of Eta closely over the coming days as weak steering currents will lead to the hurricane to move very slowly over Central America for about 3 days, leading to a widespread area of high rainfall totals even as the storm weakens. It is now expected that Eta or the remnants of Eta will reemerge into the Western Caribbean Sea and start intensifying at the end of the forecast period, though there is high uncertainty within models regarding this outcome. Despite Goni (#RollyPH) moving away from the Philippines after making the strongest landfall in recorded history in Catanduanes, Tropical Storm Atsani (Philippine name Siony) poses another potential threat to the country, with potential impacts in Luzon, though the track forecast remains very uncertain. Atsani (#SionyPH) is already a tropical storm and could become a significant typhoon in the Philippine Sea this week after doing a loop. All interests from Luzon to Taiwan need to monitor the progress of Atsani (Siony) closely as impacts could occur in either of these regions.
