Goni (#RollyPH) Becomes a Category 5 Super Typhoon on Approach to Luzon in the Philippines

Typhoon Goni, Philippine name Rolly, has continued to strengthen overnight. The typhoon it's managed to clear it's eye completely, solidified its eyewall, and continued to increase in organization. A combination of these factors means that Goni is now a category 5 super typhoon. Goni may intensify a bit more over the next few hours as conditions remain favorable for another 2-3 days until landfall in Luzon. The storm is forecast to make a landfall with 150mph (240kph) winds in Luzon, where warnings will likely be issued soon, if not already.

Typhoon Goni is currently projected as a Stage 6 on the CDPS where as much as 500 to 700 millimeters of rain could fall over Central Luzon. However, this will be over a concentrated area as Goni is a very compact storm. All Interests in the Central Luzon and Metro Manila Area, as well as Bicol, should be preparing for this Goni, Philippine name Rolly, as impacts will be catastrophic where the typhoon comes onshore.
